Dr. Boyce: Sorry Chris Rock, But Obama is Nobody’s “Gangsta”

by Dr. Boyce Watkins, Your Black World

Comedian Chris Rock made some interesting comments this week about President Barack Obama. Rock, who is a strong supporter of the president, felt compelled to argue that none of us should be fooled by the relatively passive, less-than-impressive first term of Obama. Instead, Rock says that we should look forward to the fact that having a second term is going to lead President Obama to start doing “gangsta sh*t.”

“There’s a f——— art to the first term because you’re always running for a second term the whole time. It’s like Clinton’s first term. You can’t really do your gangsta sh— until your second term. … Even Bush couldn’t really f—- up the world until his second term. That’s when he put the hammer down,” said Rock.

Rock is the latest in a slew of black comedians and public figures who’ve come out to support the president. Steve Harvey regularly uses his radio show to argue that anyone who doesn’t support President Obama is selling out the race, and Tom Joyner went as far as stating that we should support President Obama solely because he’s black.

Rock’s comments reflect his comedic brilliance, but also display a disturbing habit of millions of other African Americans who tend to make President Obama into the man they hope he is, rather than the man he has proven himself to be. President Obama is not a “gangsta” politician. He is a deliberate, calculated, (somewhat) inexperienced, highly-intelligent, non-confrontational, relatively self-serving man who sometimes gets things done. Most interestingly (and perhaps sadly), he’s probably the best candidate that either of the two major parties has been able to produce in a decade.

President Obama, by working to find common ground with his fellow politicians, is exactly what our dysfunctional government needs. Unfortunately, he’s become the man carrying a peace treaty to the middle of a war zone, and it’s simply not working out very well. Republicans have certainly been “gangsta” with President Obama, but his decision to back down in numerous showdowns with the opposition have left even his most enthusiastic supporters disillusioned.

Rock’s comment reminds us of exactly what happened in 2008, when African Americans tried so hard to read between the lines of the Obama presidency. Barack promised us almost nothing, but we believed he would give us everything. We were like the woman who sleeps with the perpetual playboy over and over again, assuming that he’ll one day change his mind about marriage. President Obama can’t be blamed for the naïve expectations of the African American community, but he can certainly be held accountable for doing nothing to dispel those expectations.

On one hand, should President Obama become the “gangsta” that Rock wants to believe that he is, he would be a perfect fit in the destructive political climate created by his peers in Washington. The only way to respond to a gun fight is to bring a bigger gun, but at the end of the day, everyone ends up getting shot. The inability of our political leaders to work out their differences productively may serve to be the downfall of our great nation.

Chris Rock and others who wish to give President Obama credit for things that he has not yet done would be best served to provide evidence of their assertions. The president has a three-year track record for us to observe, and every intelligent voter should simply check the record to decide what kind of president he is. Most of us know scores of people who want you to believe that they are going to engage in progressive action once their chains have been lifted, but in the end, we usually find that the chains are psychological constraints of their own creation.

President Obama is an amazing man, but he is certainly not anyone’s “gangsta.” Chris Rock is a great man and an amazing comedian, but like Steve Harvey, his political analysis is a bit of a joke. The last thing we need to do is allow public figures to do our thinking for us, for the proof of Obama’s qualifications is in the political pudding.  At the end of the day, our trusted public figures and celebrities should just stop playing with our heads. The only thing that’s been “gangsta” about the last three  years is the terroristic manner by which self-serving black celebrities have tried to convince us to check our brains at the door.   People can make their own decisions about Obama, and we don’t need anyone to tell us how to perceive his presidency.

If giving guns to tyrants, subverting governments, and killing people with robot planes isn’t “gangsta shit” I don’t wanna find out what is.

I don’t think you understand what a “gangsta” politician is. Also, for you to think that Obama is the best candidate from the Dems/Reps in the past decade shows that you lack compassion for humanity. Obama, as well as several presidential candidates of the past decade, is complicit in murder, war crimes, etc. As a “black” man, I find Obama repulsive, and I find others that do not object to his violations of humanity repulsive as well…I’m frankly disappointed and disgusted with many “liberals”, “progressives” and “black” entertainers who continually support Obama without mentioning how much he contributes to the massive loss of life throughout the world.

Here’s the kicker. Out of everything we know of our history, and the horrors we find out about as time goes by, and everything we see occurring in here and Africa (For those who are paying attention). Many still believe that this system is legit and that those who pretend to represent us are truly in power. So ingrained in our psyche is this grand facade that most of us, and yes even whites and others, are blinded to reality! How can this be? Check your psychological conditioning and your will to see through the hype by the door. Nothing is as it seems. So-called “leaders” purposely act, and fake, and lie, and everything we have been conditioned to accept must be uncovered and laid bare to see the underlying magnitude of BullShhh!
I really appreciate Chris Rock’s political savvy and comedic superiority, but he must understand that those who actually run this country do not play by the rules and they chose Mr. Obama to be their (House)Negro to serve their nefarious purposes.
The most important thing to realize is that nothing is done in this country without permission from the silent ‘Elite’. They are Anglo because they are the descendants of the powermongers of this country. Whenever someone goes against their plans anywhere in the world they suffer grave consequences. This elite “cabal” if you will, controls all of our resources through these puppet government officials. They control other nations through puppet dictators and leaders they either put into place or threaten with ‘our’ military strength. Whenever any of those leaders try to change the rules they are usurped or murdered and carefully replaced in time.
Mr. Obama is a willing participant in this pseudo patriotic facade that we’re plied with, and he knows that as long as he represents these high end ‘World Pirates’ he will walk away with deep pockets. If he tries to do anything that goes against the elite’s wishes he will regret it!

What we will all see in his next term is a serious attack and pillaging of Africa and the African diaspora like never before. We will also see more of our rights and freedoms disappear and a greater toxic environment created by the elite as they tear down safety nets, pillage and suck the very life out of this hemisphere.

We have all been conditioned from an early age to believe the patented lies and we do this despite ‘our’ past as an abused people. How is this so? Probably because the hype is laid on so thick by the elite’s corrupt media machine combined with a blockage of the truths a constant barrage of half truths, and super-thick cover of secrecy, and the outer surfaces of the con ‘seemingly’ so appropriately legitimate.

The elite know for certain that we are easily prepared to believe in fantasy and fiction. They test that theory from time to time just to make sure!
In the next four years pay close attention to behold the horrors that will be difficult to cover up by the false hope and lies of ‘seemingly’ accomplished good! While you’re hearing about the few so-called “good things” pay attention to the insurmountable number of terrible things! These horrible sociopathic attacks on the welfare of humanity will be less televised than the ‘good’, but if you are diligent and studied you will see the blatant human abuses and hypocrisies.

All of this information extended, and yet those with preconditioned blocked mindsets will not allow it to register nor will they follow up or pay close attention to the obvious. That is but one of the tragedies of the human condition.

@Kwame:(So few of us see so much) “I don’t think you understand what a “gangsta” politician is. Also, for you to think that Obama is the best candidate from the Dems/Reps in the past decade shows that you lack compassion for humanity. Obama, as well as several presidential candidates of the past decade, is complicit in murder, war crimes, etc. As a “black” man, I find Obama repulsive, and I find others that do not object to his violations of humanity repulsive as well…I’m frankly disappointed and disgusted with many “liberals”, “progressives” and “black” entertainers who continually support Obama without mentioning how much he contributes to the massive loss of life throughout the world.”

The problem with most of ‘our’ people is that they have been lied to, and deceived, and preyed upon for so long that they don’t know which way is up! Many are not educated properly if at all. Many are mentally handicapped from issues stemming all of the way back to ancestral slavery. Many have been infected with a Eurocentric belief system and its form of ‘God’ to a point that it leaves them open to more fiction and lies and numbs them from truths and realities they would otherwise be open to. Many have been so conditioned from youth to think of this system as the elite wishes them to, considering the constant reaffirmations of these lies. Many are too locked up in selfish desires and the Americanized need to greedily copy and accumulate. Many are unable to, or do not wish to study world affairs as the apply to the African Diaspora or ‘people of color’. Many have not read enough pertinent information which would allow them to see the patterns which confirm that things are ‘all wrong’ with ‘this picture’. Many only want to be happy in their own little shell and do not want to know the whole story as horrifying as it is. Many are suffering from all sorts of phobias. Many are happy to get whatever they can and cannot relate to how they are connected to the billions of others who are suffering and dying.
The reasons tend to be as exhausting as our inability to fight back against the tyrants that put people like Mr. Obama in place! The bottom line is that the people are destined for doom at the hands of the King-like elite, and what we don’t know will surely hurt us just as it hurt the Jews during Hitler’s reign of terror and just as it hurt our ancestors during the great slave trade and plantation rapes, beatings, burnings, hanging, family breakups, experiments, etc,, etc. Dr. Boyce is very humanitarian but like many of us he hasn’t quite gotten hold of the whole picture. If he had he could dismiss this whole social structure as the farce it is.
The hardest part for most to understand is that the game is laid on us so thickly that it really doesn’t matter who is President or who sits in House of Reps, Senate, Supreme Court or Military, or any other government agency. The people are screwed and we are headed down a constant road to utter disaster (and as always) “blacks” first! Maybe it’s best that many remain blissfully ignorant!

For the first time I am able to say whole-heartedly to the foregoing posters, “DITTO, DITTO, DITTO!!!”

  5. Dr. Boyce, give it a rest before you have a stroke or something even worse. Not ALL Black people expected much change in 2008. A politician is a politician no matter what color he is. All of them say what you want to hear in order to get elected. I wish everyone would stop referring to Obama as Black. He is half white. Bi-racial. That is the reason he doesn’t and will not act like the kind of black man that literally frightens society. If Allen Keys or Herman Cain were to become president, then we can talk about getting “gangsta”. They too will make campaign

and not keep them. I don’t know what is wrong with you today. You stated that Mr. Rock’s political analysis was a joke. Mr. Rock’s political analysis is right on the mark and funny as hell. Lighten up. We all know how Chris Rock is. This is one funny man who tells it like it is and does not bite his tongue. Goodness, reading your article made it seem like he cursed you personally. Aren’t you the one who said that we should all vote for Obama just because he is Black? I still can’t get over that

HAVEING MONEY DOSE NOT MEAN THAT YOU ARE KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.MR. ROCK SHOULD STOP TALKING IN PUBLIC

  8. I just left a comment. Where did it go? Here is what I said: “Now we got a BIG ONE on our side – Colin Powell. Colin reasoning is exactly what President Obama and Democrats have been preaching. We cannot allow corruption and fraud at Wall Street. We cannot allow CEOs shipping jobs abroad leaving people on welfare. We cannot allow people go without health insurance and being denied check-ups and thus ending with huge medical bills because they are poor whites or blacks. We cannot allow Republicans to keep tax low on super rich while taxing heavy on low and middle income. We cannot afford to cut services of police and firefighters, teachers and nurses salaries because we want the rich not to pay more taxes. Herman Cain, Mitt Romney, Gingrich and Perry should re-examine their inner most spirits. Let’s prepare for President Obama re-election.”

The 2008 presidential campaign gave us President Obama and Joe Biden AND John McCain and Sarah Palin…the American people voted for the best man for the job. The thought of McCain winning and dying was a very frightening thought. Most of your post always appear to be anti Obama as you supported the West/Smiley tour while bashing those that saw the tour as anti-black/working-class and poor…which will cause some weak non-reading blacks not to vote. The McCain/Palin ticket was a joke laced with blatant racism/bigotry. Out of all of the blacks that have ran for president…President Obama is the best. The elected baby boomers and people like you and the others appear to resent the President and have nothing good to say about him. The clowns (GOP) that are making fools of themselves would gladly share your opinion…which makes it appear that you may be one of them. What is wrong with you all? Where would we be if the McCain/Palin had won? Are you a republican? What will you gain if President Obama is defeated? What kind of future will our children have? If you support the GOP/Teabaggers then that would explain your negativity towards him. I have not agreed with all that he has done…but then again I don’t agree with ANY of the GOP/Teabaggers agendas…mostly because they only have one and that is to defeat the president . ..saying NO is not legislating and that is what he has been dealing with. The GOP don’t give a rat’s butt about the same people that your buddies claim they are speaking for on their glorified Koch Brothers bus. Teabaggers voted in 2010 and blacks did not…they sent him a congress that wants him out for the same reason you said that African Americans voted for him…now they are recalling them and changing their vote and voting for Democrats since hating President Obama is not as important as having a job, keeping their homes, feeding their children and getting an education like you have…all while having no help from the whining black caucus …if he acted like the great OREO Cain (dancing a jig and scratching his head and degrading women)…he would have been impeached by now. He may not be a gansta…but he is a man of integrity, class and intelligence…and he is the President of the United States…elected by the people.

  11. Most voters think that the person running for a political office can do what they promise>Thr system has saft guards which limits the power of the elected one.President Obama is limited in his power because the Republicans would rather see America fail than to prosper under the leadership of(black man)or a mixed racial person. To the writer befor me,I say Obama is a Black man.

  12. sandra smith, Far Rockaway, NY

This nation thrives on dysfunction. It thrives on war, mayham, illness & ignorance. As long as we’re dysfunctional, the powers that be (misfits) get paid. Lawyers and lobbyists run this system and Obama, like the Spook who sat by the door, when he was a “lowly community organizer and senator”, sat and watched all the BS and corruption going on. No one ever thought he would be president one day. The arrogance & entitlements that those who identify with the “tea party people” possess are on a mission to keep the corruption & dysfunction as is. Just because this nation has always been “gangsters and bullies, & disrespectful ” doesn’t mean we all operate that way. I’ll stand by Obama, not only because he’s Black but because we needed this change & he’s the best man out there for the job. If you won’t vote for Obama, who you gonna vote for?…ghostbusters?

  13. Myrna

Take Cheryl’s comment and add my name to her reply. I would ask
Mr. Watkins, what are our choices, Mitt Romney???? Yes, President
Obama is not perfect and he lacks experience, so let’s help not tear down.

  14. Nakeia

Dr. Boyce, I have much respect for what you have done for Black media but honestly, I’m beginning to think you, Smiley, and West have been eating at the same table. The objectivity I saw and read in your blogs and articles years ago are long, long gone. As stated by another commentor, Chris Rock is brilliant and good at at what he does which trust me, is more than tell jokes. He deserves the same respect you do, which is why I’ll refrain from insulting you as you have insulted him.
As for President Obama, spend one day in his shoes and you tell me what you would do better. He’s a focused, intelligent and insightful leader who has done more for Blacks than any President prior.

  15. sandra smith, Far Rockaway, NY

To all you Obama haters, the Black ones too, I’d just like to know, who are you going to vote for instead?

  16. Holder-Jacobs, MJ

The old saying “Words are wind but blows are unkind”. Chris Rock is looking for a laugh. No one takes him seriously. He’s a comedian who has to tell jokes. However, as educated adults in this sensitive stage of the political game and economic struggles, we have to watch what we say. On the 700 Club on Wed or Thursday, the 9th or the 10th, Pat Robertson, the old man with the white hair that preaches “Jesus”, made an awful statement using the Old Indians saying, for PR does not like Obama’s presidency, and Pat quoted “what we need in the white house, is what the Old Indians say, “a White Father” to run our country”. That tore me up for hours, but I had to pray, and I called and reported Pat to the 700 club, and I released it. Look, the real picture is bigger than Chris and Pat. I am going to vote for Obama, but at this point, if these people in power, both republicans and democrats, don’t come together and work with our President to help resolve these present crisis and put America back on top, then no one needs to vote for any of them. President Obama is in there now, he has learned more of the game and who the players are, and how to play the game, so he deserves another four years to clean up a mess that he did not create, and if you Americans don’t let him, big deal! God has a bigger plan for all of us. Now that mothers are loosing their children to murder, rape, kidnapped, molestation, etc, and they are crying out for justice, now they know how the mothers of slave children felt when their children were raped and lynched and never coming back home. God does not like ugly. Remember, God said that your wrongs will be on your future generations to come and seven times worse! However, like God of whom we all are his extensions, has blessed us with a forgiving heart, so we must forgive one another and help each other if we see their is a need for help. You don’t have to wait to be asked for help, just help if you see a need. If they want it, they will accept it. If not, you’ve done your service and move on! “Make the world a better place for you and for me” President, Mr. Obama, is a special Angel sent from God at the right time and in the right place! His name is to be glorified and never to be degraded!

  17. makheru bradley

Until the masses of people break the monopoly which the two-party system has on their minds, they will always believe that their choices are limited to two candidates. The two-party candidates, no matter who they are, ultimately serve the interest of the oligarchic psychopathocracy, as Barack Obama has proven. How much more of a gangsta can he be in Afrika and Asia? He is a real life Sambo/Quimbo brutally serving Simon Legree.

These clowns like Rock, Joyner, and Harvey are desperately trying to hold every single Black vote Barack Obama received in 2008, but it ain’t gonna happen, no matter who the Republican candidate. He’ll still overwhelmingly carry the Black vote, but with significant erosion of the 2008 turnout. If Barack Obama has done anything other than expand war, he has made many people realize that Malcolm was correct:: a chicken cannot produce a duck egg.

  18. To the Wizard: I just want to say Spot on!!! I am a huge fan of yours! I actually look for your comments and savor every word. You say all of the things that most of us would like to say, but sometimes have difficulty extolling. Please keep commenting.I would love it if you had your own website. I’d be an official member.

  19. Henry Moore (HANK)

I like this piece you wrote. To many people allow other people make critical decisions for us that we can make for ourselves. I think in this society we spend to much time and energy thinking of good and evil instead of concentrating our energy on what works.
We often pass up to many opportunities being to careful and afraid or just not caring.

  20. Henry Moore (HANK)

Wizard I read your comments after I made my statement and I would also join your website if you had one. I understand EXACTLY where you are coming from.

No long desitation as many above , the President is no ganster and is the best person for this country and world. I do not think any comedian voice and opinion will change my mine one way or another . I work in the Political arena each and every day for this country and my own and all children in this world. I do agree with some of the things that Wizaed G, said but we no longer have a legal government system, they are all bought and paid for . The rule that apply to you and me every day people do not apply to Washington. What happen with the Global meltdown was caused by our own govenment especially Paulson, Bush, the President Obama own secretary Geither was Federal Reserve Chairman of the bank in New York,
so he helped bring down this country. Corporate executive are subject to strict financial laws but, not the people that write the laws. I do beleive that
the President heart is in the right place but he doesn’t stand a chance against such corrupt government. Until more every day people get involved in this government we will never have any fairness, just look at the ,”Corporate Personhood ” that is now a part of the constitution that make it leagal to give all of this money to a canidate and then they are obligated. All these people that run for office do not do it because they love this country but because they want all the power and inside track and money. I know we will see a new President Obama , in his second term and he will win a second term, I know the GOP hate him so much and the Tea Party, and just general White People in general and brain dead people
like Cain. The public found out what the Tea Party, and the GOP really think about this country and having a black president. Well I guess I got carrie away too.

  22. O from VA

smh. It’s so shameful the way so many Blacks blindly support Obama. His policies are not much different than previous prezzes who are vilified. So many just do not pay attention to what he does. I agree with everything Kwame said and will reiterate it because he said it well:
“If giving guns to tyrants, subverting governments, and killing people with robot planes isn’t “gangsta shit” I don’t wanna find out what is.

“President Obama is not a “gangsta” politician. He is a deliberate, calculated, (somewhat) inexperienced, highly-intelligent, non-confrontational, relatively self-serving who sometimes gets things done.
