President Obama’s Approval Rating Jumps 11 Percent

by Dr. Boyce Watkins, Your Black WorldScholarship in Action

Life is good in the White House this week, as a recent CBS/New York Times poll shows that President Obama’s approval rating jumped a startling 11 points this month. As of this week, 57 percent of Americans say they approve of the way President Obama is handling his job, a stark increase from the 46 percent number just one month ago.

There are two elephants in the room which caused the president’s sudden increase in popularity. The first was the surprising series of attacks from Donald Trump, which led to even moderate members of the media referring to Trump as a racist. The second was the president’s recent killing of Osama bin Laden, ending a 10-year chase to find the man believed to have masterminded the attacks on September 11, 2001.

  1. Hats off to President Obama. He got bin Laden in just two years. Now people may respect the President getting European support before bombing Libya.

Obama’s ratings may have jumped because his excutive order
in regards to Osami Bin Laden. My question is how long is that going to remain or go even higher? If you didn’t hear about many Americans are not sure that was Bin Laden(sic). Now they’re asking for more proof. This no more than exxageration on the president just like the birthers were pushing for a view of his Birth Certificate. What a America. Most Americans are never satisfied with the fact that he’s our President and should face the true reality of it because it is real.

  4. I for one is very proud of how he handle his business. Something no one else could do. As we all ways heard theirs always someone out there more stronger than us and wiser. Obama plan was well put together, And keeping the world blind in what he were doing. It Kept the people minds focusing on Trump, To get it done. And I truly like that. I’m still with you Obama.

  5. What the people need to realize, Obama has power, everyone can’t plan as well as he did. When he went in to the white house, He new what had to be done. The problem is it took a black man to get it done, and the people need get over it. That Obama is who he is.

Barack Hussein Obama is the most competent, intelligent, morally grounded, focused, and forgiving President and human being to hold the highest office in this country! This spike in his ratings is long overdue and greatly deserved, but I AM SURE it will be short lived due to the rampant, virulent racism that is the “elephant” in the room (U.S.A.) AND because we have become, in general, long on criticism and short on praise!

Too many of us prefer to be spoon fed information (not necessarily facts) as long as it pacifies our own leanings, and we would rather be told what to think rather than give our own brains some much nee4ded exercise! This President has a proven track record of accomplishment, good instincts and judgment, phenomenal critical thinking and timing, the patience and maturity to act, not react, and that humility and generosity of spirit to acknowledge the contributions of others instead of hogging the limelight! He is a blessing to our nation, but many of us refuse to realize and accept that.

I can’t believe we are celebrating an increase in popularity for President Obama that resulted from murdering a person without trial. I am not saying that Osama bin Ladin is innocent. However it says something very ominous about our country that we reward leaders for killing people, ANY people without a trial. Osama bin Laden apparently did terrible, horrific things but killing him is nothing to celebrate. In addition, how can we offer blind praise for a President who offers up social programs to the Republican that are the very programs that benefit the poor?
