NFL Player Gets in Trouble for Remarks about Bin Laden and Slavery

by Dr. Boyce Watkins, YourBlackWorld.comScholarship in Action

Rashard Mendenhall of the Pittsburgh Steelers has been taking heat lately for making comments that many believe are in support of Osama Bin Laden.  But rather than being supportive of Bin Laden, Mendenhall is simply stating that Americans are celebrating death just a little too much for his comfort:

"What kind of person celebrates death? It’s amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We’ve only heard one side…" Mendenhall said on his Twitter account.

Adding to the controversy, Mendenhall went further by stating that he’s not exactly sure what happened on September 11.

"We’ll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style."

WoW!where have this brother been at, Maybe he hasnt been getting too much oxygen to his brain from wearing his helmet too much

  2. African-American ‘Black’ athletes are forbidden to speak about our society’s political issues and especially about racism, discrimination and other prejudices perpetrated by this white supremacist society and its forever top-heavy Anglo political, business, judicial, and policing structure.

They are still considered very fortunate to be able to make wealth in a sport once reserved for whites. This is why we never hear a peep from them regarding all of the injustices they (some of them who aren’t blinded by lies), must surely see.
This young man has crossed that forbidden line and for that they shall make him pay dearly! Secretly or publicly he will have to pay.

We are at once a doomed society, and as always, the ‘black’ populous will suffer the brunt of the ‘American’ burden.

    I agree with you WizardG
It is written in there contracts that they don’t read, that they cannot be political, or speak about world concerns, they are sign on to play sports. In white America blacks are classified as children and only to be seen and not heard. Reminds me of the book “Million dollar slave”. We saw that with Martin Luther King he was cool in most respects when preaching religious non violence doctrine but as soon as he spoke out about the war he became very unpopular. Stevie Wonder was ok with america as long as he kept us singing and dancing among ourselve but when he spoke out about south africa and apatheid, then all of a sudden he had tax problem or they were looking to see if his record were inorder. Any black that crosses that line is crucified. This is the doctine of “you reward your friends and crucify you enemies ruthlessly. Rashard Mendenhall is one of the many like those who came before him that will be put up on display and whipped into submission by the America people and our own people. I give Rashard Mendenhall all the blessings and credit in the world for his ability to think, which is a lost art in these days. On my last note on the subject it reminds me of what I read years ago, “of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most.” Most of us in this society have lost our minds and cannot find it, and the ones who still have there minds are constantly under attack by those who want to steal our mind and make us conform. It is a rerun of the Master slave syndrome of this society. When will this end, who knows. The obvious solution is sometimes right in front of us if we choose to look!
Thanks for allowing me to express my little thought on the subject

freedom of speech is for whites and don’t forget that.
beck said (PRESIDENT OBAMA IS DEAD) he is in no trouble.
so why should Rashard Mendenhall be getting heat from whites?
mind control is a hellava game.

    True
President Obama is damned if he do, and damned if he don’t. These white folks are going t find something wrong with whatever he do. What did they want the man to do, bring him home and tax american’s until they decided they was tied of playing with him and kill him. I like the fact that this young man spoike his mind. Maybe if he stand strong he’ll be another Obama.

I am glad he spoke out; however it will have unfortunate consequences. I was wondering the same thing he spoke of. Many American do not speak Arabic they are not aware of why Bin laden did what he did. We were only shown one side to the story. I truly do not believe Mr. Rashard was saying he is siding with Bin Laden. But after much history of abuse, secrets and slavery. We cannot forget that people will cover up the truth if they feel it is in there best interest. I would also like to mention that Muslim American especially the African American have never seen Bin laden heard or Bin Laden. Yet people in political position have had dinner with him and his family and done business with the Bin Laden, yet they are not ask of the nature of there involvement. But innocent Americans are harassed and screen everyday. Just think, that is all Mr. Rashard is saying.

It was good for the young man to make that statement. I am sure a lot of people was thinking the same thing, but wasn’t as bold or didn’t have the platform.

We have to also remember, White Americans have never felt the pain of being black. And I say the pain, because historically, in many cases just because a person was black they lost thier life.

And such was the case with Bin Laden, because we are Americans our country has been target. However, there are so many things we don’t know.

Also, bare in mind, 1000’s lost their life on 911 and family and friends are trying to heal.

On the issue of celebrating death, that’s a very interesting subject. Scripture teaches that satan and his demons are real and that they are not fantasies and myths and that evil exists and it cannot be reasoned with. 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober; be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Many people feel that he (Osama Bin Laden) represented evil, therefore, they rejoiced over his death. I am still assessing the information surrounding all of this so I haven’t quite formulated a final opinion. One thing I know for sure is that that evil is a real enemy that presents a real danger. There are many human beings that walk the earth that are the personification of evil and while I problably wouldn’t rejoice over their death, I would certainly thank God for it.

Bin Laden and 9-11 do not add up……… I don’t believe any of this deals with “who the terrorist really was”.

    Tell someone else this tale.

  11. LLO525Star

I came across an African proverb that says ‘Do not celebrate death, for that will only invite death to visit amongst you and yours.’
I agree with this young man and even if I did not, I see nothing wrong with OR inflammatory about the quotes attributed to him. I do see a man who merely requests people to question what they’re told.
But the problem is NOT Mr. Mendenhall…it is the mindless robot monkeys who believe everything they are spoon-fed. The moment you question the status quo, you’re a target. Think about Muhammad Ali when he refused to go to war. Think about what happened to Michael Jackson right after he dropped that video he did with ALL Black dancers and an ALL Black cast. Think of the issues James Brown tapped his temple and said “This is Black Power.”

  12. LLO525Star

Furthermore, at this stage of the game, we’d be damn fools to just accept the official story of anything without close inspection.

  13. JC

Mr. Mendenhall speaking out should not be much of an issue. BUT, he should realize there will be a response asked for or not.
Also,he could speak out more on black athletes spending more wisely, returning to school, improving contract negotiating & understanding, serving / investing or giving back to childhood communities, etc. Instead of comparing black athletes to well paid million dollar check “slaves”—yeah right. Black athletes CHOOSE to be in the sports industry and spend their money on bling, chasing ass (male & female),drugs (steriods & recreational)
and partying, etc. AND FOR THE RECORD, anyone while working for a company, institution, or industry speaking out on issues or politically can land them in hot water.

I feel where the brothers are at 100%. Its sad but the reality of the matter is we are still being controlled by the dominant culture in an all out colony. That’s right we’re in essence being held captive. And the foregoing won’t change until we break the chains and say, “I’m not going to take anymore!” When Satan allows us to get the big dollas through sports or entertainment he wants to have sole control of what we do and how we spend that money. The rule is don’t help your people invest your millions with me & I’ll decide who to share it with. I won’t go into examples but it’s well known that Black athletes & actors & actresses don’t look back when they rake in millions & this is why they run into problems. Again, I feel where both of these brothers are at with their statements.

  15. SpanishLakeLeroy

I don’t think he should be punished for speaking his mind. It’s just sad that his mind contains such stupidity. “”It’s amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We’ve only heard one side…”” ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Someone should tell this FOOL that binLaden freely ADMITTED planning 9/11, AND bombing the USS Cole, AND bombing 2 US Embassies in Africa, killing thousands of innocents AND proudly claiming responsibility in numerous videos that were broadcast around the world. What a MORON ! If a white athlete said the same stupidity, the criticism would be the same. Too many people commenting here are concerned about his skin color and not his amazing ignorance.

  16. There is a union for Europian countries only and you (countries of color) will never be invited into their meetings. It’s perpose is to keep the indiginus people undercontrol. You can call them devil worshipers if you want to, I really don’t care. To keep control, is to keep you from waking up the sleeping people of the world. And every white person knows that law. We also have color skin people who think white, are against you also. We have had unions before for our protection, but they were not strong enough to stay alive. If one leader is taken down, the next must be ready to step in at that very moment. Get your unions together and do what ever is necessary to keep it going for the next 1000 years. We can not afford another 500 years of our opressor. Money does not make you a leader. But, your money will keep a leader alive and working. Watch out for the glory seekers and top ni—s in charge. They can hurt you worst than any white person or white country. I love us.

  17. Only The Truth!

I am truly amazed that this ultra racist country with its shameful legacy of slavery and long term Jim Crow laws has the audacity to question a Black man’s prospective on an issue that comes out very differently to him. I absolutely agree with Rashard Mendenhall. George Bush and his racist, hateful, war-mongering band of criminals in the “white house” come from a long line of American war criminals who have killed literally millions of “less important people” in Japan, Korea, Viet Nam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and other parts of the world. Why are Americans’ lives so valuable, and the lives of people of other “unimportant nations” so worthless? Whatever happened to the presumption of innocence? Rashard Mendenhall is absolutely right! We see it all differently! You constantly remind us that you are the descendants of the devils who enslaved our ancestors! We will not have you continue to suggest that freedom, including Freedom of Speech, is a province reserved exclusively for white people!

When will George Bush be brought to justice for ordering those young, precious American men and women to war in Iraq under the guise of attacking a nation that was responsible for 9/11, and reportedly had weapons of mass destruction? George Bush was responsible for the deaths of millions of innocent Iraqi civilians! When will the Iraqi people have the special opportunity to get their justice for the millions of Iraqis that George Bush have killed? When will the Iraqi have the opportunity to exact their justice? Isn’t it against International Law to assassinate elected leaders of countries? International Law seems to apply to everybody except the United States! We see it all differently! You constantly remind us that you are the descendants of the devils who enslaved our ancestors! Rashard Mendenhall is absolutely right!

This is a ruthless, racist country! You can visit Columbia, South Carolina and see real, raw, undiluted racism, as the Confederate Flag is on display on the front lawn of the State House at the state capital! Who wants the Confederate Flag displayed anywhere? No Black person wants that Flag anywhere! We don’t see any of these types of issues the same way as the descendents of the devils who enslaved our ancestors see them! Rashard Mendenhall is absolutely right!
